We are always on the lookout for new ideas and talent, for stories that are fresh and engaging. We’d love to read what you have been working on. If you have an agent, great, but don’t worry if not; we welcome unsolicited manuscripts. Just complete the contact form to the right of this page, or pop your submission in the post to the following address:

Candy Jar Books

Please note, however, that we do not accept children’s picture books. If you have written a children’s picture book, please check out our sister imprint, Jelly Bean Books

What to send

A covering letter giving your book’s working title and an outline of your idea. Please include a synopsis of your book, 2-3 chapters, and an idea of the kind of readers you think will enjoy it.

If you wish for your material to be returned, please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

We aim to respond to every submission we are sent. This can take us a few months, however, so please have patience when waiting for a reply.

What we are looking for

I am looking for a mystery/thriller novel with original and surprising plot twists something similar to Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl or SJ Watson’s Before I Go to Sleep. I’m also looking to acquire a contemporary recipe book. I admit to being an avid fan of The Great British Bake Off and would welcome a book devised by a passionate and creative cook, whose recipes stand out in this saturated market.

I am looking for a detective novel – similar Ian Rankin, P.D. James, Mark Billingham or Karin Slaughter. Something ideal for TV adaption. Cultural biographies would be also welcome. Think of the type of documentary as seen on BBC 4: 100 Years of the Girls Guides, Northern Soul, The Ballad of Mott the Hoople, Children’s TV Trials, 100 Years of the Palladium.

Also, non-fiction cult TV/film books – similar to Companions: Fifty Years of Doctor Who Assistants
. Our slate of children’s fiction is full but if you have written the next Harry Potter we would, of course, be very interested. I do not want children’s picture books unless you sign up to our Publishing Partnership package.
