Silent Mountain by Michelle Briscombe

Fiction for children aged 9-12.

Jack Jupiter is not cool, he is not brave and he is altogether unremarkable. That is, until his grandmother uses her ‘talent’ and foresees a terrible future for Jack. With this, our young hero is dragged into a world of fantastical creatures and unrelenting enemies who force Jack to muster whatever courage he can find to escape, discover the truth about his father and reach the mythical Silent Mountain.

First novel of a series of books featuring Jack Jupiter with an ecological theme.

Silent Mountain has been nominated for the Tir na n-Og award, and was the subject of interpretation for pupils of Broad Haven Primary School who were crowned victors of Bookslam 2014.

Reviews

"This story is really good as it's got adventure, fantasy and mystery rolled into one. I really like this book because Michelle Briscombe leaves the truth right until the end of the story. It is an exciting book and I would strongly recommend it for 9-13 year olds both boys and girls."  -  Amazon, Customer Review

About the Author

Michelle Briscombe was born in Cardiff but now lives in Barry, South Wales, with her husband and two children. For the last twelve years she has worked in a primary school in the Vale of Glamorgan and has a BA in Primary Education.

Michelle enjoys walking and often takes walking holidays with her family who all have a keen interest in the natural world. The idea for this story came from her son’s interest in birds of prey when he was very young.
Michelle has always written when ideas come knocking and still has several stories in the attic that she wrote when she was a child.
